In this guide I will show you repair shops and the difference between a Body-Shop and a Paint-Shop in Star Trucker.
Repair Shops in Star Trucker
Repair Amenities are a vital part of repairing and customizing your Star-Hauler and are available throughout the Galaxy. So why are there three types and what are the differences? This guide will show you the tips and explain what some of them will do in the Long Run!
Paint Shops
Is your Star-Hauler looking a bit bland? If you’re not happy with its current appearance, you can visit paint shops to give your rig a fresh new look with a variety of colors and liveries. These options can help reflect your personality—or your rig’s! A popular stop for this is Diego’s Paint & Ride, located near Atlas Prime. This is often the first place players go to customize their Star-Hauler.
Location: Crossvale, near the Jump Gate to Dependency Loop.
Once inside, you’ll have three main ways to change your Star-Hauler’s appearance:
Paint Jobs
Paint jobs are special wraps that give your rig a unique style. Most can be unlocked by completing challenges. For example, completing five jobs for a company like Instagalactic or Frank’s Logistics will reward you with that company’s livery.
Paint Colors
This option is straightforward—you can change the colors of your rig to whatever suits your style.
Paint Type
Here, you can choose the finish for your truck’s body, adjusting the gloss and reflectiveness to your liking.
Are there any fees for repainting my truck?
- Nope! Once you unlock a paint livery, it’s permanently available for your save file.
Body Shops
Body shops offer a variety of customization options for your Star-Hauler, allowing you to switch out different parts like grilles and exhaust stacks. Whether you’re looking for aesthetics or self-expression, this is where you’ll want to stop.
Location: New Aspen, near the Jump Gate to Crossvale.
Some customization options include:
Grilles
Change the look of the front of your rig if it doesn’t suit your style—purely for aesthetic purposes, of course!
Hood Ornaments
Hood ornaments can represent anything from a brand to your personality, adding a touch of flair to your rig.
Exhausts
Since there’s no air pollution in space, exhaust customization is purely for style and sound. Many truckers love the look of straight pipes that reach for the stars!
Sensors
Originally air cleaners on Earth, these sensors are now used to detect salvage beacons or tags from other drivers.
Upgrade Shops / Auto Essentials
If you’re looking to enhance your Star-Hauler’s performance, Upgrade Shops are your go-to. These shops not only let you repair your rig but also offer performance upgrades that can help your truck haul more efficiently and use less power.
Location: Crossvale, a mile from the Jump Gate to the Enigma Belt.
Some essentials sold here include Power Cells, UCCs, and Air Filters. Depending on the sector or stock rotation, they may also sell Shock Pods, Gas Cans, or even a spare Gas Cap—just in case your last one was lost in the vastness of space.
What about the Upgrade Shop itself?
Upgrade Shops are the only places you can service and repair your Star-Hauler’s upgrades. If your hull is damaged, you can get routine maintenance here as well.
There are three categories of upgrades:
Propulsion Upgrades (PR1-4)
Focuses on improving the efficiency of your thrusters.
- Turbopump System: Increases acceleration and brake power.
- Combustion Chambers: Boosts top speed.
- Nozzle Coolers: Improves thruster cooling efficiency.
- Engine Control Unit: Enhances fuel efficiency, so you can travel farther between refuels.
Structure Upgrades (ST1-3)
Strengthens your hull to withstand space debris impacts.
- Reinforced Plating: Increases impact resistance.
- Thermal Insulation: Enhances insulation effectiveness, reducing temperature control power consumption.
Subsystem Upgrades (SU1-3)
Miscellaneous upgrades that affect power consumption and scanner range.
- Maglock Dampener: Increases cargo damage resistance during collisions.
- Suit Station: Speeds up your suit’s recharge rate.
- Sensor Tuning: Expands scanner range to detect objects and other drivers.
Truck Servicing
You can check your truck’s condition, including the hull, services, and upgrades, by accessing the second channel on the left monitor of your dashboard. Keep an eye on it, as services and upgrades deteriorate over time due to debris collisions or electrical storms.
If any of your Propulsion, Structure, or Subsystem services fail, your truck’s performance will revert to its default state.
Reminder!
Take care of your truck, and it will take care of you!
Recovery Summaries
If you run out of oxygen or suffer from extreme temperatures, don’t worry—rescue teams throughout the galaxy are ready to assist. You’ll be relocated to the nearest auto essentials shop, but this will delay any active jobs, and any contraband you’re carrying may be confiscated. Additionally, you’ll have to pay a fee, which increases depending on the severity of your situation.
If you’re in Hardcore mode, there is no rescue—permanent death is enabled.
Remember to keep essentials like Air Filters on hand to avoid multiple rescues!
Locations & Availability
As mentioned, these types of services are located across the galaxy although most sectors Don’t have these sorts of services, some being too remote to have any form of service!
This table will list out all the sectors that do and do not have such Amenities.
