Picayune Dreams: Summoning New Secret Boss Umi

I have briefly compiled the requirements for summoning the new secret boss Umi in Picayune Dreams and the best setup to get her in this guide.

How to Summon New Secret Boss Umi

Learn the exact steps to summon Umi, including the best setup and common pitfalls to avoid.

Summoning Method

Umi can be summoned by leaving a black hole pick-up on the ground in a modified area for four mortality levels. When done correctly, a faint jingle will signal her arrival. Be aware that if a boss spawns before she reaches the black hole, her approach will be delayed but not canceled. To trigger the fight, grab the black hole right before she picks it up.

Important: Statues interfere with her spawn timer. Either unequip statue-related skills or remove any active statues in the area.

The Ritual – A Consistent Summoning Strategy

For a reliable Umi summon, follow these steps:

  • Equip Spaghettification, which spawns a black hole pick-up upon defeating a boss.
  • Pick up all other items to avoid distractions (optional but recommended).
  • Choose an area with an active modifier. If statues are enabled, select one that disappears after activation (e.g., Statue of Protection or Statue of Relief).
  • If no such statue is available, use chain grenades to remove any interfering statues.
  • If executed correctly, Umi’s jingle will play one mortality before the boss spawns, ensuring a smooth summoning process.
  • Master this method to summon Umi consistently and face her in battle!

  1. Thank you very much for this simple and effective guide! I’ve looked on the official Wiki page for Picayune Dreams and while it says how to unlock it, it’s not specific to the point I did not know the Statues actually can interfere with the timing, and it HAS to be a black hole pickup, not ANY pickup.

Also when the black hole pickup is spawned, Umi will usually start to spawn 4 mortality levels after the instance the black hole pickup is visible. So if one were to get the drop at 0.51 mortality, she may start to spawn and make the spawn jingle at around 4.51 mortality.

And I’ve learned to disable Solenoid Infusion to prevent automatically magnetizing and picking up black hole pickups after defeating a boss, or using a magnet in general.
