I have simply explained the details of the battle in Never Second in Rome and the tactics to defeat enemies in this combat guide.
How to win in Never Second in Rome
Here are the details on how to play and win Never Second in Rome:
Personal Combat
Unlike in the first game, the combat here is drawn-out, relying on the players endurance. So when making a character you want to put 61 points into endurance and then choose the tireless perk for a further +10
When it comes to personal combat a lot of the times you will be on the defensive only attacking when there is an opportunity, like the opponent fumbling an attack and then the followup recovery check. It is also worth noting that if the player starts combat and chooses offensive focus the AI will do so as well allowing you to attack with around +15 bonus from your attack bonus and the enemy’s defense debuff.
Army Combat
Now i too understand army combat can be frustrating, but once you get the hang of it you will be wiping out the opposition to 0 cohesion every engagement. Combat here too is all about endurance and imbalance, you want your opponent to be over +5 or -5 imbalance for as long as possible vastly increasing their fatigue. And you want your commander off the field after their commitment bar fills and then on the field once it reaches the neutral level, this will save you precious fatigue points for personal combat.

At the start of each combat phase i start with cautious commitment so my imbalance will be in the negative allowing me to attack next turn forcing the opponent to defend. If done correctly knowing how to balance your own imbalance and ruin the opponent’s, you will only be around 2/4 or 3/4 of your fatigue bar while the opponent will already be in the first stage of tiredness, and that is when combat will become much easier. Even against superior enemies if you simply keep their fatigue much higher than yours they will eventually hit the final stage of tiredness, reducing all their stats to 0.
