Foxhole Map Icons Meaning (Symbols)

Basic guide on all the map icons within Foxhole. Feel free to comment on anything I have missed or got incorrect or if you have any questions. I will try to keep the guide updated but I can’t tell how much the game will change over time.

Spawn Points – Pt1 – Towns and Victory Points

Town CentresBasic Guide to Foxhole Map Icons

One of the most common icons on the map. These will be located in a town and are the central deployment and spawning area around the area.**Town tiers vary based on tech level of the base and require an upgrade via Construction Vehicle once conditions are met**. Tech level can be increased by voting for upgrades on the right hand side of the menu when accessing the buildings inventory.

Town centers are crucial for the war as they are what enable factories, refineries etc and upon the start of a war (along with relic bases) will be filled with basic supplies to kickstart the in-game economy.

Town Hall Tier 1

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map Icons
Tier 1 – Cloth coverings over the windows(on garrison houses), map icon is indicated by just the building and no stars.

Town Hall Tier 2

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map Icons
Tier 2 – Wooden coverings over the windows(on garrison houses), map icon is indicated by 2 stars above the building.

Town Hall Tier 3

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map Icons
Tier 3 – Metal coverings over the windows(on garrison houses), map icon is indicated by 3 stars above the building.

Relic Bases
Basic Guide to Foxhole Map IconsRelic bases are similar to Town Bases, however they have visual changes and are also not located in a town. Relic bases are often located in remoter areas of the map and don’t have an influence on industry, they also have 3 levels but this only increases HP.

Safehouses
Basic Guide to Foxhole Map IconsSafehouses come in one form and are incredibly strong, with the appropriate upgrades, they can only be damaged from the inside when lower than 30% hp. The icon is a house with shield and can often be found in Victory Points.

Keeps
Basic Guide to Foxhole Map IconsKeeps are unique structures that are very similar to FOBs, however they have fixed positions to where they are build, for example the Great Warden Dam but are often seen at old/castle like locations. The icon looks similar to a castle.

Victory Points
Basic Guide to Foxhole Map IconsVictory Points are very similar to Town Bases however they have some key differences. Victory points are what determines who wins the war and there is 1 victory town per region. Victory towns are often large logistics towns, such as Callums Cope Cape or Therizo, once one side controls a certain number of victory points they will win the war. Victory points are distinguished through the clear Flag Icon on the map.

Spawn Points – Pt2 – Player Built Structures

Bunker Bases
Basic Guide to Foxhole Map Icons

Bunker Bases are arguably one of the most important buildings in frontline combat within foxhole, and provide AI to surrounding garrions making them crucial for combat. These are built using a Construction Vehicle and can be built anywhere a player chooses (within reason). Bunker bases are also required to make weapons such as the Stormcannon or Hans (RADAR).

Bunker bases act as a respawn point for soldiers and a point to get items. They can also be used to deploy to from home region if the base has the Deployment Point upgrade unlocked.

Bunker Base T1

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map IconsTier 1 – Can be distinguished by it’s muddy appearance with wooden poles for support. It is relatively weak and can be destroyed even by 12.7mm Machine Gun. Often accompanied by Rifle/MG garrisons and pillboxes.

Bunker Base T2

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map IconsTier 2 – Can be distinguished by it’s cleaner appearance with wooden planks and details. It is stronger than T1 and cannot be destroyed by a 12.7mm Machine Gun. Often accompanied by Rifle/MG garrisons and Anti Tank garrisons.

Bunker Base T3

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map IconsTier 3 – Can be distinguished by it’s grey look as it is made with cumcrete concrete. It is by far stronger than T1 and T2, and will often have several layered defences. Rifle/MG/AT/Arty garrisons often accompanied by SCs and RADARs are common.

Forward Operating Bases
Basic Guide to Foxhole Map IconsBasic Guide to Foxhole Map IconsBasic Guide to Foxhole Map Icons

FOBs are similar to Bunker Bases in many ways; they can be used to respawn, provide AI and have 3 Tiers. However they are weaker than Bunker Bases and do not have to be constructed as bunker. In order to build an encampment you need a CV and 300 Bmats, they are easier and faster to build than BBs making them a viable choice for quickly evolving frontlines.

FOBs cannot be used to build rifle garrisons etc, however they will provide AI to pillboxes and prevent decay if supplied with Garrison Supplies.

Encampment (T1)

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map IconsTier 1 – Can be distinguished by it’s tent like appearance. It is relatively weak and can be destroyed even by 12.7mm Machine Guns. These will often contain minimal supplies and will be protected by pillboxes, they are often used for Parmesan Cheese Partisan activities.

Field Base (T2)

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map IconsTier 2 – Can be distinguished by it’s Barracks like appearance with metal details. It is stronger than T1 and cannot be destroyed by a 12.7mm Machine Gun and doubles the building’s HP. They are often are used to make encampments stronger on the frontline at Bridge Fights etc.

Outpost (T3)

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map IconsTier 3 – Can be distinguished by it’s grey look with it’s concrete appearance. It is not much stronger than T2, but will often be used later into the war near seaports and key location for logistical purposes such as pulling shells out of crates.

Logistics – Pt1 – Resources

Resource Fields
Basic Guide to Foxhole Map IconsBasic Guide to Foxhole Map IconsBasic Guide to Foxhole Map Icons

Without resource fields there would be no logistics at all! Resource fields come in 3 forms, Scrap, component and sulfur, with respective resources located in each. These come in nodes which have to be manually farmed either by hand or via a harvester.

Scrap Fields

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map IconsScrap is what is used to be turned into Basic Materials, Explosive Materials or Diesel. The icon can be spotted by it’s appearance as a screw/bolt. To farm the resources, you will need: a hammer or sledgehammer and a truck, to transport resources to the refinery.

Component Fields

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map IconsComponents are used to make Refined Materials but only becomes available later when sledgehammers are teched. The icon is a hexagon with a hole in the middle. To farm the resources, you will need: a sledgehammer and a truck, to transport to the refinery.

Sulfur Fields

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map IconsSulfur is used to make High explosive material but only becomes available later in the war when sledgehammers are available. The icon looks like a rock. To farm the resources, you will need: a sledgehammer and a truck, to transport resources to the refinery.

Resource Mines
Basic Guide to Foxhole Map IconsBasic Guide to Foxhole Map IconsBasic Guide to Foxhole Map Icons

Resource Mines come in 4 forms, Scrap, component, sulfur and oil, with respective resources located in each. Unlike resource fields mines do not have to be manually used, and passively produce materials to be collected by players, provided they have diesel or petrol to run (usage of at the same time both increases production rate)

DON’T FORGET TO REFUEL THE MINES!!!

Scrap Mines

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map IconsScrap is what is used to be turned into Basic Materials, Explosive Materials or Diesel. You will need a truck, to transport resources to the refinery. These mines are a reliable fast source of scrap if you don’t have time to wack nodes.

Component Mines

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map IconsComponents are used to make Refined Materials and the mines are the only way to obtain these materials until sledgehammers are teched. You will need a truck to transport to the refinery.

Sulfur Mines

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map IconsSulfur is used to make High explosive material and the mines are the only way to obtain these materials until sledgehammers are teched. The icon looks almost like a house. You will need a truck, to transport resources to the refinery.

Oil Derricks

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map IconsOil is used to make Petrol and these oil wells are the only way to obtain it. The icon looks like an oil drum. You will need a truck, to transport resources to the refinery.

Logistics – Pt2 – Buildings

Production Buildings
Basic Guide to Foxhole Map IconsBasic Guide to Foxhole Map IconsBasic Guide to Foxhole Map Icons

You see that rifle in your hand? That thing came from one of these buildings! These buildings are used to keep the war effort going, and can be used to refine materials and then turn them into guns, ammo, supplies and even tanks.

These buildings are always located in towns and often victory points. They require the industry tech on the townhall, but all towns start with them automatically at the start of the war.

Refinery

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map IconsThe refinery is the first building in the chain and is used to turn scrap, components, oil and sulfur into refined materials (as the name suggests). The icon is a hammer on the map. Once refined you can use the resources to produce items in the factory.

Factory

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map IconsThe factory is what is used to produce most items from the frontline, from guns to explosives, it is all made here. These factories are quick to produce, usually between 10-20 minutes but depending on factory queues up to an hour.

Mass Production Factory

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map IconsMass Production Factories are used for bulk orders with a slight cost discount. They are often used by groups or regiments to build crates of vehicles, tanks or equipment. These take much longer to produce things, often taking around 20-25 hours.

Vehicular Construction Facilities
Basic Guide to Foxhole Map IconsBasic Guide to Foxhole Map IconsBasic Guide to Foxhole Map Icons

These buildings are used for constructing vehicles, ships and transportable containers/weapons. They will always be busy and if you check the parking area near them, you may just find some free vehicles or even prototype weapons if you are lucky!

Garage

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map IconsThe garage is where vehicles and wheelchairs (pushable machineguns, cannons etc) are built. You need build the vehicles with a hammer but it is fast. If you want to build a tank with your hard earned RMats this is the place to do it. The icon is a truck symbol.

Construction Yard

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map IconsThe construction yard is where shipping containers and emplaced weapons are constructed. The icon is a crane with a platform. These are in most logistics areas and are crucial for making containers to ship large amounts of supplies around the map.

Shipyard

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map IconsThe shipyard functions and is used in the same way as a garage, except it is for construction of sea vehicles. You can produce everything here from Landing Ships to Barges. The icon is an anchor. Note that speedboats cannot be built here.

Storage Facilities & TechBasic Guide to Foxhole Map IconsBasic Guide to Foxhole Map IconsBasic Guide to Foxhole Map Icons

Storage buildings are used to store crates of items or vehicles in public or in private. It is at these building where you can store items for other people to use, or keep your materials safe until you have time to use them, note, you cannot store individual vehicles in your stockpiles.

The engineering centre is where the magic happens, as the war progresses, Tech Maids or Quarter Masters will use Tech Materials, which can be gathered by chance at resource fields, to research new technologies. At the start of the war, it is just you and your rifle, at the end there is tanks and nukes. Both sides engage in a technological arms race, so make sure you support your research guys!

Seaport

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map IconsThe seaport is located often in a victory town or nearby, they are a centrally used area, with equipment flowing in and out constantly, you can also make your private stockpiles here. The key difference to storage depots is naval vehicles have access to the port.

Storage Depot

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map IconsThe storage depot is the same as a seaport however they do not have access for sea vehicles and can be located in any town, anywhere on the map. You can also make private stockpiles here for easy access and pulling.

Engineering Centre

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map IconsThe engineering centre is where technology is researched, designated tech personnel will research using tech materials, be sure NOT to tech on your own as it can damage efforts and everything researched will have been voted by your side of the confict.

Building Technology Levels

Building Tech
Many buildings such as Town Halls, Relic Bases and Bunker Bases etc, have a screen on the right side of the inventory menu, this is where technology can be researched for that base. You can contribute to this by simply clicking on one of the available options and setting your spawn at that base. These upgrades can do many things from provide AI to building Storm Cannons or RADARs.

Shared Upgrades

Provisional Garrison

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map Icons
Provisional Garrison is the first AI upgrade and provides AI to surrounding structures IF enough people have their spawn set at that base.

Small Garrison

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map Icons
Small Garrison is the second AI level and provides AI permanently to surrounding structures, however make sure the base has Garrison supplies so it doesn’t decay!

Large Garrison

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map Icons
Large Garrison is the final level of AI and permanently provides AI to surrounding structures and lowers the cost of Garrison Supplies the base consumes per hour.

Town Upgrades

Industry

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map Icons
The industry upgrade is only in towns and allows for logistics buildings like factories and refineries etc to be (re)built. This upgrade is required if a building gets destroyed in order for it to be rebuilt with a Construction Vehicle.

Occupied Town

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map Icons
The occupied town upgrade is only in towns and allows for garrison houses to be (re)built. Sometimes garrison houses can be completely destroyed and unable to be rebuilt permanently, such as if the town got nuked, even with this upgrade.

Fortified Town

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map Icons
The fortified town upgrade is only in towns and allows for mortar houses to be (re)built. Mortar houses are incredibly powerful buildings and allow for easy defence of towns, especially in early war. Keep them well supplied with shells!

Safehouse Upgrades

Artillery Shelter

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map Icons
When a safehouse has the Artillery Shelter upgrade, the building can only take damage from the inside, if it’s HP is lower than 30%. This means you will have to fire explosives through the doors and windows in order to kill it.

Communications

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map Icons
If a safehouse has the Comms upgrade, your map will be updated with intelligence (enemy movements within watchtower range) upon opening the structure’s inventory. All other buildings automatically do this.

Unique Icons

Storm Cannon

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map Icons

By far the most famous and recognisable icon in this list it also one of the newest! This symbol represents the Storm Cannon a deadly artillery gun able to shoot across border and flatten enemy defences. This gun is hard to get though and is unlock through the last stage of The BB (Bunker Base) it requires alot of power and care to keep it safe and running but is a saving grace.

Radar

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map Icons

Similar to the infamous Storm cannon it is a last tier upgrade of a Bunker base although it came a lot later than the storm cannon. These massive Radar allows you to spy on your enemy’s positions and movement from a safe distance it does this by

Nuke/Launch Site

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map Icons

Nukes are critical part of Foxhole in the late game, usage of one can knock out whole areas (within 100m) permanently, however, the usage of WMD in foxhole is quite complex and not something for this guide. The icon is a rocket and they are never “controlled” by either faction, there are about 8/10 scattered around the map and only become usable during the last stages of the war.

Observation Tower

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map Icons

Observation towers are very similar to watch towers, except they are located in pre-determined locations and have a very large radius to gain intelligence. The icon looks similar to a lighthouse and can be destroyed and be rebuilt by either faction with no restrictions.

Coastal Gun

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map Icons

Coastal Guns are a unique AI controlled structure that are almost always located next to seaports. They act like normal pillboxes or garrisons, however, they have a massive range and only fire at naval targets. The icon is similar to that of the storm cannon but it has a wider base.

Landing Ships

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map Icons

Landing ships act as a spawn and deployment point, they are often used for naval landings and are pre-stocked by players and chosen where to be deployed to. The icon is a ship on the map, with the respective factions colour.

Border Bases

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map Icons

Border Bases are once again a complicated mechanic, but what you need to know is they act as the way to invade adjacent regions, once every town/relic is under your factions control in the previous region. The icon is incredibly similar to outposts, but will always be located in rapid decay next to the border.

Smaller Icons

Watch Towers/Structures:

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map Icons

Structures are smaller icons on the map which can be seen all along the front and at the moment include only one type of structure, the Watch Tower these structures when friendly allow to see all enemy movement in its area (160m). These watch Towers detect enemy vehicles, soldiers and defences in its area and show it to you on the map if you have a radio, this is updated often! Watch Towers require a Hammer and 60 Bmats (Basic Materials) to build by pressing B and selecting Watch Tower.

Field Hospital

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map Icons

Field Hospitals are weak structures recognisable by there Triangle shaped tent, marked by a big green cross on either side. These structures have a very important purpose which is to gather shirts from CRITICALLY wounded soldiers (please don’t mistake these with Wounded Soldiers!). Critically wounded soldiers can be found lying on the floor on their side after a player has bleed out or died on the floor although this has a limited chance. Once found press V to pick up the solider and submit him to a field hospital nearby using the button in the bottom of the hospitals menu. After the process is finished the body will disappear out of a “bed” (indicated through the Hospital menu) and some amount of shirts will be placed in to the Hospitals inventory, these can be placed in BB’s (Bunker Bases) TH (Town Halls) or Relics (Relic Bases) or any spawnable structure and allow players to spawn here!

Defences

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map Icons

Defences are icons to represent all defences which can be manned by AI (Garrisons or pillboxes). These structures are able to provide crucial support when defending valuable land or precious locations!

Infantry

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map Icons

This information is provided by friendly Watch Towers in the area and will show you the location of friendly and enemy Infantry positions in its area (this information is updated often on your map). As a note you can identify this icon by its small circle icon in which ever teams colour.

Vehicles

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map Icons

This information is provided by friendly Watch Towers in the area and will show you the location of friendly and enemy vehicles these could be trucks or light vehicles or Tanks so be careful (this information is updated often on your map). As a note you can identify this icon by its small triangle icon in which ever teams colour.

Artillery

Basic Guide to Foxhole Map Icons

This Icon is a rare one and will be seen less than other icons on this list. These icons show the position of Arty pieces (Artillery pieces) which are powerful long ranged guns will can fire on enemy positions dealing fatal damage.

Thank you Orange!

Additional Information about the Map

When you get in the game can be rather overwhelming but don’t panic! There is a basic training on the home island and you can ask questions in game or in the discord, and people should help you out.

All you need to know on the map is where the frontlines are and it’s simple. Wherever the blue and green on the maps touch, that is the frontline (or it is nearby). You can also bring a truck with supplies if there is a queue to where you want to travel to is, in order to pass some time!
