Fears to Fathom Episode 1 Walkthrough Guide
Many guides for this game are well written (Some not so much), but we noticed that some skipped critical details or had some inaccurate information. This is our attempt to create a 100% accurate guide for this game. Story, Walkthrough, Achievements and more!
Story
Paraphrased from the game’s store page;
“You play as Miles, a 14 years old kid who is home alone while his parents are out of town for work. He soon finds himself in trouble as the story unfolds, would he make it through the night? He survived as he made the right choices.”
The store page does a great job of providing the most important details of the story, although many people (myself included) find it to be quite lacking in detail – and fair enough, it’s hard to give enough information without spoiling the entire story. And as much as I wish to include more information, it is near impossible to find the original stories online, as they have more than likely been directly sent to the developer of the game, possibly even anonymously. However, despite the lack of evident story to go from, you can still piece together a probable storyline based solely on the events of the game.
Note: The rest of this guide will feature spoilers for the rest of the game. You have been warned.
The story begins with the main character, here-forth referred to as Miles, home alone in their house. Their parents are away on a trip, and their friends bailed on them at the last minute, leaving them entirely alone for the night. At least, that’s what they think.
They wake up late after a nap to get some dinner. They are informed via text by their mother that they have a lasagna waiting for them in the fridge. After heating it up in the oven, Miles sits down on the couch to eat it in front of the TV. This is where we get our first hint that we’re in danger, as if you pay attention, you can see someone walking up the stairs out of the corner of your eye.
However, you are still in no real danger. Upon returning to his room, Miles finishes some homework and goes to sleep.
A few hours later, Miles awakens to get a drink from the fridge. Upon completing this task, right before he goes back to sleep, he is alarmed by a text message from his mother, showing that an intruder is directly outside of the house.
Miles runs into his room, shuts the door behind him, and hides under his bed. A short while later, he hears the sound of glass breaking, and then a doorbell being rung. His mother informs him via text that the person at the door is his neighbour, Paula.
Miles attempts to escape via the front door, but stops dead in his tracks. He sees the horrifying image of his parent’s bedroom door being opened, and a shadow bleeding out into the hallway. He runs back to his room, shuts the door, and hides under the bed once more. Eventually, the police arrive, and Miles safely flees to the front door, where his neighbour Paula is waiting for him.
There is no further information about who the intruder is, why they broke in, or if they got arrested, which – in my opinion, at least – is the scariest part of the story. They could very well still be out there.
Fears to Fathom Episode 1 Walkthrough
The following is a set of steps for a complete walkthrough.
- Upon starting the game, turn your alarm off.
- Get out of bed, walk down to the kitchen, and open the fridge.
- Take the lasagna and place it into the oven.
- Wait a few moments, and remove the lasagna from the oven.
- Head into the living room with your lasagna.
- Turn the TV on, sit on the couch, and eat your lasagna. Sidenote, after your second piece of lasagna, you can see the intruder walking up the stairs.
- Exit the living room and head up to your room.
- Interact with your chair, and do your homework.
- Go to sleep in your bed.
- Head downstairs to the fridge and get some water.
- Drink it, and return to your room.
At this point, you will receive a message showing the intruder outside of your house. From now on, it is possible to die, so be very careful. This is also a good time to get the ‘Loud’ achievement.
- Hide under your bed until you hear the intruder break in, and the doorbell ring a few times. You will receive a message saying Paula is at the door.
- Exit your room and approach the stairs until you see a door open in front of you.
Return to your room and hide back under your bed until you hear the police arrive.
You are not fully safe until you hear the serene music start playing. You may exit your room before then, but do not approach the stairs until the music begins playing, and you see the door close in front of you. It is also not required for you to head downstairs in order to win, as long as the music starts playing, you can go anywhere & do anything while still winning.
Achievements
Curious
The ‘Curious’ achievement is earned simply by reading through both the text message histories. It may take a short while for the achievement to be earned, so feel free to take your time reading the messages.
Loud
Originally posted by Miles:As I tried peeking through the blinds, he looked straight at me. I felt my heart skip a beat.
The ‘Loud’ achievement is earned by alerting the Intruder to your presence when he is at the front door. Crouch down by the window after receiving a message showing him outside your house, and speak into your microphone. He will look towards you, and an audio stinger will play, followed by you receiving the achievement after a moment.
Survivor
The ‘Survivor’ achievement is earned by surviving the night. Make it to the end of the game without being caught, and you will receive this achievement. More information on how to do this can be found in the ‘Walkthrough’ section of this guide.
Jumpscares/Deaths
The following covers all of the possible jumpscares and deaths possible in the game, of which there are two.
The Intruder catching Miles at the front door. (Avoidable)
Caused by: The player opening the front door at any point after receiving a text showing the intruder outside the house, but before the police arrive.
The Intruder catching Miles inside the house. (Avoidable)
Caused by: The player approaching the door to Miles’ parent’s room after it is opened by the intruder.
