Welcome to our Fear and Hunger Comprehensive Steal Guide. A list of EVERY item you can acquire using the “steal” skill, as well as how the steal skill works and how to learn it!
We know that there are people who have a hard time finishing the Fear and Hunger game. If you are one of those who find it difficult to finish the game, let’s take you to our Fear and Hunger guide.
How to get Steal
As exclusively Cahara:
- Choose “Become a pickpocket.” in the backstory options
Or
- Spend a lesser soul at the Hexen table to learn steal
Or
- Read a book of forgotten memories
As anyone:
- Read a Scroll of thievery (a rare drop found in bookcases)
Or
- Kill Cahara and absorb his soul with a soul stone, then learn steal with lesser souls at a hexen table
Or
- accept Nilvan’s terms to receive an endless soul, then learn steal with lesser souls at a hexen table
Or
- Write using a quill on an empty scroll
- (there’s a guaranteed empty scroll in Nosramus’ home, quills can be found randomly in crates)

Or
- Write using a quill on an empty scroll
- O LORD
- GIVE
- ENDLESS
- then learn steal with lesser souls at a hexen table
By far the easiest method is either to start as Cahara and choose “Become a pickpocket.” in the backstory, or as any character, save in a bed or use a book of enlightenment and brute force a bookshelf to spawn a scroll of thievery, or use an empty scroll (you can always steal an empty scroll from Iron Shakespeare, so I’d say it’s the best use of one)
How Steal Works
It takes an action in combat, so it’s best to be used when you’ve disabled the enemy or if you have multiple party members
It always succeeds, so long as the target has an item you can steal
Once you use steal on that specific enemy, you cannot use it again on that specific enemy (multiple instances of the same enemy will yield multiple steals)
Formatting
- () = the number of that enemy in the game
- / = EITHER. So orange / apple means you’d get either an orange or an apple, 50/50 chance
- N/A = not applicable, nothing
