A short tips guide covering deck building for starting players in Dream Team Basketball.
Dream Team Basketball Deck Building Tips
Welcome to our Dream Team Basketball Deck Building Tips guide. Dream Team Basketball is first and foremost a card deck building game. Each deck has 5 starter spots that will be placed from left to right based on the deck order and another 7 bench cards that can be substituted in. The aim when deck building in Dream Team Basketball should be to create a strong synergy between your cards as most of the time individual card power is trumped by powerfull smart deck interactions.
1. Mind the Salary Cap
The salary cap is the most important limitation when deck building. you are required to have a maximum 130 salary across your cards. This means that it will be very complicated to lineup more than 2 legendaries. Although you can have 3 legendaries, most of the times you are left with a limited salary potential for the other 9 cards.
Be mindfull that most probably you will need to make a couple of substitutions and thus will be required to play cards from the bench. For starters deck we recommend to have at least 3 good players on the bench.
2. Substitution Strategy
In general you can play an optimal game with only 8 players if you start substituting early. This means that you will substitute out 1 of your starters when he first activates, and push him back earlier in place of another starter. Again you will do the same for you second fastest player (2nd activation) and push him back in when you take out your last starter. This way you use only your 5 starters and 3 bench players. This is helpfull in order to create as much synergy and power on a limited set of players and don’t waste salary on players that will not be used.
Of course, having more options on the bench that can be situational players can give you an advantage and we strongly recommend doing so. The above strategy is an advice for optimizing salary for more power.
3. Managing Stamina
As a rule if you want your cards not to get Fatigued, you should substitute in a replacement when a card is around 20 Stamina. Slower cards with lower playmaking will have a higher threeshold, while faster cards (with higher plamaking) can make it with a lower cap.
Example:
If a player activates and is a player with 25 PMK and he has 16 Stamina left, he will most probably get fatigued before his next activation.
If a player activates and has 70 PMK and he has 20 Stamina left, he will most probably reactivate with 2-3 Stamina left without getting Fatigued.
Be mindfull that activations are based on all 10 players, this means that if all players have high PMK a card will activate later, if other cards have low PMK it’s the other way around.
4. End game Management
At the end of game all end game triggers happen and also all Bonus shots and passes are executed. If these final actions will generate Turnmeter and push a player past his activation threeshold, that player will activate and be able to take an action. If that action will generate again more Turnmeter and push another player to activate, that activation will happen too and so on. On the other hand other bonus shots and passes generate from these end of game turnmeter activations will not be executed anymore.
As a summary: Bonus shots and passes are executed at end game only once, everything generated after 00:00 will not be executed anymore
Also it makes sense close to the end of the game to use as many shooting skills as possible. substituing a player with only 2 minutes to go is not very efficient as most likely that player will not manage to activate. It is highly recommended to try and score as many points or to activate other synergies the closer you get to the end of game.
Speed Starter Deck
As a new player the starter deck although basic has quite some raw power. There are a number of ways to move forward with your first deck. In general you should open the initial 25 packs and try to build around your initial legendaries.
1. Tatum Speed Deck
Your initial legendary Tatum is a strong one. Besides his raw power coming from his stats, he can fit in a SPD deck becuase of his 2nd skill that becomes more powefull if you have other SPD cards in your deck.
The tatum speed deck will need to be a collection of SPD cards with one of the following skills:
- Team Transition: Shoot x times with Base ACC 40 and 3PC 0, get a Bonus Pass for other SPD on team
- One Touch Pass: Pass x times to a teammate, get a Bonus Pass for each SPD on Team
Your deck should have the following cards available from the begining:
- Jaeson Taetum
- Kenba Valker
- Isac Boga
Also you should add 3-4 of the following cards that you either pulled from initial boosters or you can craft:
Expensive (needs some fame investment):
- Jaylen Grinn
- Kelliy Oubrre
- LaMello Boll
- Riki Robio
Cheap (minimum investment):
- JayDee Davidson
- Austyn Riverz
- Monty Morriz
- Pattrik Mills
You should complete the deck with cards that give bonuses to other SPD cards or that benefit from having alot of SPD players.
Strong recommendation for Ishmal Smit who has 2 SPD auras and is relativelly cheap to craft. Other options:
- Paiton Watsun
- Kirac Luis
- Amirr Cofey
- Emanuel Quigley
- Denis Schredder
- Terri Rosier
- Kendrik Nomm
