Battle Mode Guide
Understand first that battle mode is a game of cat and mouse. The demons are the mice, Granted the slayer has the ability to shoot good. You must be aware that…
The slayer is stronger than the demons.
And i don’t just mean “Oh, well as long as you two attack together you can win!”.No.
The slayer is stronger than both of the demons, at the same time.
1. He has his strongest guns.
2. He has full ammo at the start of each round.
3. He has full health and armor at the start of each round.
4. The map is a barren field, and he wants to crush you hard and fast.
If you run into the slayer minutes into the match, your most likely about to experience an abrupt death wondering “How is any of this fair?”
NOW WHAT!
1. Make sure you take the support version of your demon, or make sure your teammate is.
If you don’t take this class, Then as a demon, you won’t have any way to heal until the 2nd round, and even then you are taking a pretty awful perk in place of having a proper support, And either one of you getting killed means the slayer is on the verge of winning the game.
You need a way to get your health back from those nasty ballista shots your taking at max range, Or your just going to get finished off by a single double barrel shotgun blast when the slayer finds you.
2. Avoid taking on the slayer if he has more than 60% of his health and armor.
The slayer is going to kill you much faster than you will be able to kill him, and he is going to make sure of it. His best option for fighting two demons that are sticking close together is to pick one of you apart from range, and close in to finish you off and take your sweet juices.
3. Spawn demons.
Demons make the slayer use his guns, Or better yet: Hurt the slayer. Now i know you might be thinking, “But if i spawn demons i’m giving him a way to heal or get ammo!”.
This might be true, but the slayer is going to be using more resources than he gets back by fighting off your spawned demons, And you need him to start using those resources he has before you get into a fight with him.
A slayer with all of his health and ammo is a slayer that’s going to murder you.
3.1. Respawn demons.
If your demons happen to be on the other side of the map, but the slayer is pounding your face in, Respawn them so they can be of some use.
Note that respawning a demon will cause the previous spawn to die and drop loot, So its not a bad idea to pair this with loot blocker.
4. Destroy the slayers loot.
Your handy dandy loot block does more than prevent the slayer from making goodies fall from the bad guys, It deletes anything that happens to be on the ground when you use it. So while he engages with those demons you brought into the world, Use this ability to make sure he’s throwing away his resources for good.
But it doesn’t delete the goodies that drop from you or your partner demon, So staying alive is critical to your chances.
Just try to make sure you aren’t using this ability at the same time as your partner.
4.1. Ruin his chainsaw
Do you happen to hear chainsaw sound effects in this distance? Press your handy dandy lootblocker to make it a giant waste of time on the slayers part.
[Note that the timing of this may be off depending on if he has a certain perk, or if the match is laggy.]
The less ammo the slayer has when he starts fighting you, the better off you will be. Limiting his options is what you need in order to secure the win.
Master these 4 elements, and work together with your fellow demon, and you just might be able to take the slayer out.
However, find that your partner isn’t spawning demons, is sitting in plain sight getting blasted at long range, and you will know true suffering. So take a break every once in a while and play as the slayer for a bit.
THAT’S IT?
I’d rather be enjoying the game right now than writing a guide, But the above is a good enough starting point for you to even stand a chance while playing as a demon.
Regardless of what demon you pick, the 4 things above are what will win you the game. Even if some demons are stronger picks than others, if you aren’t making the most of the tools the game has provided you, a competent slayer is going to rip you apart.
Maybe this guide will get more detailed in the future, Maybe not. but either way, i hope you walk away knowing a little more than you did before.
Good luck and have fun.
BONUS SECTION
This area is just going to be a dump of information that i have yet to sort out into proper sections because i would still rather be playing the game than writing a guide.
SLAYER FACTS
- Ballista damage: 600 per hit.
- Arbalest damage: 400 direct hit, ??? AOE damage. [at least 200, most likely a little more]
- Destroyer blade damage: Why would you ever use this? don’t.
- Heavy cannon precision shot: 400 damage per hit.
Super shotgun damage: up to 900 at point blank. roughly 600 at midrange. falls off heavily after that.
“WHAT PERKS DO I USE?”
Resource Drain: Yeah, it gives you some more health per kill, but health is easy enough to get without this perk.
Burning Hate: Armor is the thing that is hard to get, so this perk has more value than Resource drain by default. More armor per belch, and faster belch regen, A decent pick.
Master Carve: One of your best perks. Faster chainsaw means less time for demons to react with a lootblock. Better fuel regen means you have more opportunities to chainsaw heavy demons like the hellknight, or more opportunities for an On-demand speed boost.
Double down: Good for helping you clean out demon spawns, or putting down the damage on a mancubus or bad demon players.
Dashing: Faster dash regeneration. So fast that it makes you outspeed everything in battlemode. Oh, and glory kills and chainsaw kills refresh your dashes for whatever thats worth too. A great pick in that it allows you better control over engagements. Want to chase the demons? they cant get away. Want to get away? The demons cant keep up.
Speed Demon: Faster and farther glory killing. Considering your ability to glorykill is based on your ping during a match, the value of this perk is directly related to how laggy everything is, And its not that useful in the first place. Outshined by every other perk.
RYLON’S CHOICE: Your picks will generally boil down to dashing, and then double down, or master carve. These three perks have the most bang for their buck when you are playing against skilled demons.
NOTE: As a demon don’t try to hunt down the slayer. Just keep spawning demons and use your tactical abilities, rather than fighting the slayer directly.
Archie feels like a necessary pick. You’re going to need the teleporting for playing hide and seek when your team mate eats the slayer’s barrels.
The flame shield will, with luck waste at least one of the slayers ballista shot, and I’ve found (at least at this stage of the games life) most slayers will be way too focused on trying to rearrange your organs to realise you’ve set his trousers on fire.
I feel a buff on the demon healing options will go a long way at balancing this game.
As you’ve said above, playing demon is a game of attrition. Whittle the meat man down to 50% before you both close in for the kill.
