Backrooms Society Level 117 Guide
Pack your bag, we’re going to school! Here’s a comprehensive guide to Level 117.
The Map
Level Info
Level 117 is a Class 4 level that consists of an infinite number of classrooms and hallways and is accessed with a Level 4 keycard purchased from the merchant in Trader’s Keep.
This level only has one exit, found behind a locked door in a library. As far as danger goes, look out for a hound, a death rat, smilers, and janitors. Plastic and Old Clothes are common in this area in regards to resources.
The Entities
The Janitor
More than likely, the first entity you will encounter in this level is a Janitor. The Janitor is a shadowy figure that will randomly appear in any area of the level. When they appear they emit a low hum that gives you an idea of where they are if you do not see them. If you do see them on your screen, they will latch onto your character and drain your sanity. This was recently changed for the better, where they drain your sanity rather quickly but only for a short duration. Be careful when playing in multiplayer or looking at your inventory because the janitor does not like to be looked at once he latches onto someone. If you cannot avoid looking at a janitor, be sure to stay stocked up on Almond Water.
Notes:
- The Janitor can’t do anything if you don’t look at him
- If he latches onto you, watch your sanity
- Do not look at him if he is latched onto someone
Death Rat
Long story short, it’s a really big rat. You can’t do anything against it, either hide in a locker or pop an energy drink and run.

Hound
The Hound is found in the downstairs section of the school and is guarding the key needed to exit. The hound is easily stopped by shining a flashlight in its eyes. On occasion, the hound will chase you up the stairs and begin to patrol the main hallways so stay aware.
Notes:
- Stun the hound momentarily by blinding it with a flashlight
- If you stay out of its line of sight, it won’t attack
Smilers
Smilers are the least likely encounter for this level. It has a chance to spawn near the Death Rat marked on the map, just whistle to make it go away.
The Walkthrough
Beating the Level
From the start, go all the way down the first hallway and through the connecting rooms to the marked yellow door on the map. (If you don’t have an axe, one can be found across the hallway in a storage closet on a shelf.)
Use the axe to break the planks at the down the stairs and navigate the maze while avoiding the hound. Grab the key in the locker and return upstairs.
Now, trek across the map to the marked blue door/lock, where the exit is locked. In the newly unlocked library, go up the stairs and into the corner of the room. Crawl under the bookshelf and exit the level.
Notable Loot
As previously mentioned, this level has a lot of plastic and old clothes found in lockers.
Marked on the map, there are two rooms with computers. These computers have electronics and this is the only place to get them.
If you traverse through the vents, which you need a ladder to get into, you will find yourself on a basketball court eventually.
On a table in this room is a plan for the improved backpack.
