The First Shall be Last is a Main Story Mission, and part of Red Dead Redemption 2 Chapter two.
This guide highlights mission strategies and Gold Medal requirements.
The First Shall be Last Walkthrough
Gold Medal Checklist
- Silently kill the Bounty Hunters by the river with Javier
- Shoot the rope to free Sean
- Get 10 headshots
- Complete the mission without taking any health items
To start this quest, go to Javier, who’s just north of Blackwater. A cutscene will start when you’re close enough to him. You learn that Sean will be transported to a federal prison, and you create a plan to intercept then in transit to save him.
Follow Josiah and Javier on horseback – you’ll see a boat soon, which you presume is where Sean is.
Continue following them, and eventually you’ll stop on a cliff. Equip your binoculars and look down at the boat. You’ll see Sean, and discuss Ike Skelding’s bounty hunters.
Follow them to shore, crouch down out of site, and equip a knife.
Once you’ve taken those two men out, go up the canyon pathway. There will be more bounty hunters waiting for you.
GOLD MEDAL REQUIREMENTS
[su_note]Aim for heads with an accurate gun, like a rifle, so you can get enough headshots to earn the Gold Medal.[/su_note]
As you progress, you’ll meet up with Charles. You can technically loot the men, but reinforcements are coming – so it’s best to continue onward so you don’t get cornered.
Follow Javier and Charles to cmap, and use the logs as cover while you pick off the bounty hunters there.
GOLD MEDAL REQUIREMENTS
[su_note]You must shoot Sean’s ropes to get the requirement for the Gold Medal.[/su_note]
Talking to Sean will complete the mission, so you should loot beforehand. You’ll technically get a chance to loot after, but the law will show up quick, cutting your lootin’ short. There’s $11, moonshine, and a Collectible Cigarette Card by the small green tent, and more miscellaneous items around.
When you go back to camp that night, your gang will be having a party.
The First Shall be Last mission is completed.
