The Matchless Kungfu Combat, Abilities & Tips
Welcome to our general guide to The Matchless Kungfu Combat, Abilities & Tips! This guide will show you detailed information about combat, abilities, meridians, karma, NPC’s and more tips in the game!
What to expect
Bare bones mildly schizophrenic ramblings ahead, so basically, no different than the actual game (for now). ANY and all questions about the game will be answered to the best of my ability or by smarter people in the comments also blindly stumbling through this game.
Watch out for spoilers 🙂
The Combat
Combat is rock paper scissors on ADD meds.
Terminology:
- Moves: Punches, Kicks, Thrown Weapon, Held Weapon, Palm attacks are all called MOVES.
- Skills: These are the 6 cards you select in the character menu. These will be the bulk of your damage.
Your skills determine how many of each type of move you can do in combat and your gear is one factor that determines your stats.
Generally speaking, you want to be busting out as many of your skills as possible while blocking your opponent from doing the same. You can block your opponent’s actions by winning the rock paper scissors pentagram 3 times in a row . Keep in mind, open palm attacks do not defeat kicks and fists do not defeat thrown weapons.
Damage works in two ways. the punches/kicks/swords/etc you chain together, and then the skills you’re able to cast on the next turn. You can choose to not spend your skills, but generally I find it’s only worth saving up the healing spells. keep in mind, you do not have to chain your moves EXACTLY as the card reads, it only cares about quantity, not order.

Abilities
These get leveled up passively as you play the game and do certain tasks. NPCs can teach you the first level of these abilities if they like you OR you can teach npcs the first level of these skills to get them to like you. Easy abilities to get early on are “Fly on Water” (Press jump on the surface of the water), “Wall Walking” (climb up any cliff), “Quingong” (jump), “Fly on Snow” (walk while overencumbered) And Sneak (Press G).
Also, no idea what this means.
I’ve talked to ever Liu on the map, and I still don’t know how to get the final tier of sneak and thievery. This one is gonna be a “let’s let the comment section figure it out” kinda deal. I’ll update this section if either I figure it out, or someone wants to be a hero.

Meridians
1 chi = 1 hex worth of movement.
The meridian flows one way and has to connect back into the core when you’re done, otherwise you get no passive boost. I highly recommend you make your character go to sleep so you can learn your first meridian pattern.
The patterns are learned from npcs and skill books.
DEBUFFS TO YOUR MERIDIANS (except a couple) CAN BE DEALT WITH BY LOOPING YOUR MERIDIAN THROUGH THE BAD REDNESS AND LINKING BACK TO YOUR CORE
(autistic Artistic liberties have been made for this image)
Make sure you hold still for a moment and let the meridian get rid of the debuff. If it’s not going away, it’s probably one of the annoying debuffs like the parasitic bug or you broke your legs. Doc can fix your broken legs, allegedly a certain skill can remove all debuffs from you in combat which gets rid of the bug. Reloading a save also works if you don’t care like me.
Karma
Permanent upgrades/tweaks for future descendants.
That’s basically it, even I don’t know exactly what each of these nodes wants. I’ve murdered people left right and center and it didn’t unlock the random murder one, so hey, your guess is as good as mine.
These only kick in when you return to karma. (die/have that character become unplayable)

Bio
It’s a log of stuff that happens to your character.
I could not figure out how to get the “secrets” tab to display anything.
NPCs
Don’t gift more than 500 gold to an npc at a time. 500 gold = 50 positive rep with that npc. Giving any more doesn’t seem to give anything extra.
I generally recommend being nice to NPCs since learning more abilities and breathing techniques will be a huge boost to your power. Or you could just rob their storehouses.
Looting knocked out animals kills them.
