Classes at Elden Ring
Which character to choose for the first playthrough?
The player is given a choice of several options for starting buildup. Each of the classes has different initial weapons and characteristics. However, this restriction is very conditional, no one will prevent you from completely transferring the hero from a knight to a mage and back at any time. Therefore, all descriptions like preferred weapons and other things refer exclusively to the first hours of the game.
In total, 10 classes are available at the start.
Rogue is a classic melee character in FromSoftware games with heavy armor. Knows how to handle swords, halberds and other powerful weapons.
The Warrior is almost like a Rogue, but with more emphasis on aggressive dual-sword play.
The hero is a melee fighter with an ax and a shield.
Bandit – a mix of ranged and melee combat. Uses a short bow and dagger.
The Astrologer is a mage who uses a two-handed staff and ranged spells.
The Prophet is a melee character with an emphasis on faith. Uses spells, recovery skills, and wields a spear and shield.
Samurai is a hybrid of ranged and melee combat. In battles, he uses a katana, a shield and a bow. Wears medium armor.
Prisoner is a melee mage build. Uses a staff in one hand and a one-handed sword in the other.
Confessor – melee mix with faith skills. Knows how to heal and uses a shield and a sword in fights.
The scoundrel is a completely naked first-level character without initial armor and upgraded characteristics.
But with gaming preferences it is better to decide from the very beginning. If you are an adherent of the classic Dark Souls gameplay and magic is heresy for you, then feel free to choose a warrior, a tramp or a samurai. A shield with 100% protection against blows can be found almost in the first couple of hours (this is not enough, believe me), so look at the starting weapon and the beauty of the set.
If you want to try magic, then look towards an astrologer or a prophet. They can attack from afar with powerful spells and be charged with prayers. At the very beginning of Elden Ring, even the magician will have to fight with his hands, because powerful spells do not give immediately – keep in mind!
Which Starting Item to Choose in Elden Ring
After choosing a class, you have to decide on the starting subject. There are nine to choose from, but it would be hard to call each of them useful, since almost all of them are consumables.
“Medallion with Crimson Amber” – increases the character’s health by 26 units.
“Rune of the Interearth” – when activated, immediately gives 3000 runes.
“Golden Seed” – immediately increases the number of flask charges.
“Fanged Imp Ashes” – allows you to summon a small demon in battles. It will become active after receiving the “Spirit Calling Bell” (more on that later).
“Cracked Pot” – needed to create thrown bombs.
“Sword Key” – opens locked by white fog way.
Arcane Branch – five consumable items to attack enemies with witchcraft.
“Boiled Shrimp” – five artifacts for temporary damage reduction.
Oath of Shabriri – Summons hostile players. Used only for multiplayer.
The choice of starting subject, despite all the diversity, is not the widest. The most useful options are a medallion or a seed. The first will slightly increase the level of health at the start, and the second will give an additional charge of the flask. At the beginning of the game, when there are a lot of enemies and they hit hard, both artifacts will help.
As an alternative, a xiphoid key can be considered. With it, the player opens locked doors and portals, where rewards or entire locations usually lie. However, it is a consumable item that is easy to find in the Interearth or buy from merchants, so its value decreases rapidly.
The rune of Interearth will also be facilitated only by starting survival – the player will be able to immediately level up and upgrade some characteristics, however, you can earn money on your own, just by grinding monsters a little.
The First Steps! How to get a Horse in Elden Ring and Where to go first?
At the very beginning of the game, the gamer immediately finds himself in a huge open world. Not to get lost will help small rays of the set from places of grace (local fires) and tips from NPCs. Well, do not forget about interactive maps that will help you not to miss something interesting.
But where to go first? First of all, it is desirable to avoid a fight with the Guardian of the Tree – this is a knight on horseback, the first serious boss of the game, he will meet you almost immediately. With starting stats and weak weapons, only a Jedi can kill him, so it’s best to go around the rider on the left or right and get to the fire in the “Temple of Ella” (screenshot above). Guards will become easier to kill after gaining a few levels and a horse, but more on that later.
Here the player will meet the first merchant and will be able to buy a torch and other useful items. First of all, we recommend buying a crafting kit for 300 runes – this will help you in your adventure more than once or twice. It is also worth taking a closer look at the reference books that can be bought from each merchant or found at locations. Each such will teach the hero to create new items.
Another important point: try to come here at night to meet the mysterious witch Renna. You can also waste time by sitting near the fire. The stranger will give you a bell to summon spirits. More on this a little later.
Next, we study a small area of the forest with knights and earn the first experience. Near the soldier sitting by the fire, you can find the entrance to the Forest Cave dungeon.
If you have a torch, you can easily kill a few wolves here and face an easy boss.
After that, you need to clear the outpost “Ruins at the Gates” in the north, open the map at the monument and activate the nearest places of grace “Near the Gates” and “Northern Shore of the Lake”.
This is your first outpost, so it’s a good idea to clear it completely. Test your starting strength and accumulate a few hundred runes to the next level. First, carefully kill the enemies around the central road with stealth, and then take on a powerful knight with a spear. It is also better to hit him in the back first, and then gently attack. Don’t forget to open the chests in the stagecoaches (they are on the back side) and go down to the basement in the center of the camp. There you will receive the first “Ashes of War” – a special strike that can be installed on standard weapons.
At some point, the player will be joined by the girl Melina, who will provide an item to summon a horse. She will appear after resting at the safe point “Near the Gate”. Accept her help, for this she will give you a whistle to call a horse and teach you how to level up – you will have a new line while resting on a fire.
Your path through the story is marked on the map with a golden glow at the places of grace. Such points indicate the approximate direction in which to go. Doing this at the very beginning is not worth it – it is advisable to level up before meeting with the bosses. In addition, not every fire tells you where to go.
From the very beginning, do not rush to leave the Graveyard. It is better to explore this part of the map, visit the lake and clear the nearest dungeons. This will allow you to quickly improve the characteristics of the hero and get used to the basic gameplay mechanics. First, it is better to fully explore the surroundings, visit the southern territory behind the bridge, and then go to the story bosses in Thunder Veil Castle.
We move north from the place of grace “Near the Gates” and find the shelter “Shack on Thunder Hill”. To the west of this point there will be a fortress with the first story bosses. It is also recommended to use an interactive map that will allow you to find missed caves and useful items.
Double Grip
How to Dual Wield in Elden Ring?
Double grip weapons are needed in several cases. Firstly, with him, the hero completely changes the set of animations. The structure of the series of strikes will remain the same, but their appearance will change – for example, the overall scope will become wider. Secondly, it affects the attack power. If you hold a two-handed weapon in one hand, then it will deal only half damage, but if you take it in both, it will do full damage.

Evasion. What Determines the Speed of Somersaults in Elden Ring

You can parry an enemy attack with an equipped shield. Please note that not every shield allows you to parry – some have a completely different feature. To reflect the blow, you need to press the button in time. Each attack has its own timing, which includes a parry, so you can only become a skilled master of defense with training, long and hard.

To summon spirits, the player needs to obtain the “Bell to summon spirits”. At the very beginning of the game, we immediately go to the temple of Elle and rewind time to the night in the place of grace. Nearby, the witch of Renna will appear on the stones. We agree with her proposal and get the artifact. Thanks to him, the hero will be able to summon partners near Marika’s Wedges. When the spirit can be activated, a blue icon lights up on the left side of the screen.
The witch will also share the ashes of lone wolves – it is very useful in the early stages. They pounce on enemies and knock down their animations, as well as tank damage. With them, that starting camp is cleared many times easier.
In the future, the player will be able to get other types of dust and summon more powerful spirits. For a quick call, you can place the desired ashes in the quick access menu or in your bag.
Spells and Prayers
How to use magic in Elden Ring and where to find it?
Each hero is able to use spells and prayers. To activate the first, you need to equip a staff in your hand, the second – a seal. Some classes can use magic from the very beginning, all other characters will have to get the appropriate items. Staves, seals, as well as new spells and prayers are given for defeating bosses or completing quests, they can also be bought from merchants.
One of the first magic teachers can be found in the starting location. To do this, you need to go from the starting location to the southwest, run through the lake and find the “Ruins of the settlement”. We go down the stairs and meet with the Pumpkinhead Madness boss. Not the most difficult opponent, especially if there are already wolves.
After the victory, you need to open the door and talk to the sorceress Sellena, so she will agree to become your teacher and sell skills for runes.
When casting spells, the player spends mana. To replenish it, you must use the appropriate flask. In the place of grace, you can distribute their number. It is desirable for mages to carry more vessels with mana, and for a warrior – with health.
Golden Sseeds and Drops of Tears
How to upgrade flasks in Elden Ring?
There are two important items in Elden Ring that can be used to upgrade the flask.
Golden seeds – increase the number of charges. Located near small golden trees, usually on the road to a new location. They are also given for defeating some bosses. At first, one seed is enough to improve, but over time, the cost of the service will increase, up to four at a time.
Sacred Tear – increases the effectiveness of potions. They need to be looked for in temples, they lie near the statues of Marika.
To improve the bottle, you need to rest in the place of grace and select the “Jar” item.
How to Upgrade Weapons in Elden Ring

For a serious upgrade, you need to meet the blacksmith as soon as possible.
The player will meet the first blacksmith in the Round Table Fortress. You can get into it after traveling the world and relaxing at many places of grace. At some point, Melina will appear there and offer to go to the Round Table Fortress.
In this safe location, the player is able to not only upgrade weapons, but also meet several merchants and purchase useful items. It is worth exploring this location in its entirety, as there are many locked doors that can be opened with xiphoid keys.
Blacksmith stones can be found in several ways. The simplest: discover in secret places, knock out opponents or buy from merchants. Over time, it will be possible to buy stones of a certain type in infinite quantities in the Round Table Fortress. Find the old twin maids and bring them the blacksmith’s bell orbs, they allow you to expand the assortment to the most powerful stones.
Ashes of War
How to Use a Special Weapon Strike in Elden Ring?
First of all, what is “Ashes of War” in simple words. This is an upgrade that can be found in a variety of ways: dropped from cowardly scarabs, obtained from bosses, or found in chests. Then it must be installed in a suitable weapon. Some types of ash only work with halberds, while others improve shields or axes.
Before installing the ashes, you can additionally sharpen the weapon in various ways, due to which its characteristics will change. And some unique upgrades will also teach the sword new properties – for example, it will start dealing fire damage instead of physical damage. After choosing an enchant, your weapon will “learn” the appropriate technique.
To use such strokes, you need to press the correct key.

It should be borne in mind that each technique spends a certain amount of mana, therefore, with the active use of such attacks, it is necessary to grab flasks to restore witchcraft points.

At the very beginning of the game, the character has only one slot for talismans open. These artifacts greatly simplify the gameplay and improve the character, as they seriously increase some characteristics. You can increase the number of simultaneously available amulets with the help of bags. There are three of them, each knocked out of the corresponding boss.
The first is obtained after killing the debut story boss – Margit, the Blood Omen. In rare cases, this may not happen, then the artifact will end up in the hands of the hero after killing Morgott’s opponent, the King of Omens in the Capital.
The second will be given for killing any two demigods: Godric, Rennala, Radan, Malenia, Ricard, Mog or Morgott.
The third bag can be obtained by killing Godfrey, the First Lord of Elden – he is located in Leindell, the capital of the kingdom. Important! First, get the first two bags, otherwise the third may not be given.
Memory Stone
How to increase the number of active spells in Elden Ring?
The character has a limited set of cells for activating spells and prayers. This set can be increased by searching for “Stones of Memory”. Each found pebble increases the number of cells by one. Please note that some powerful spells take up two or even three free slots. Therefore, each magician is obliged to extract them by all available means.
Most often, memory stones are found in towers covered with blue seals. Several items can be obtained after defeating the bosses or bought from the same old twin maids in the Round Table Keep.
How to remove the magical seals from the towers in Elden Ring
To open the magic tower, you need to solve a puzzle. Her condition is always written on a pedestal with demons near the entrance.
Usually they are asked to kill three “wise animals” – meaning the ghosts of turtles that are hidden around the tower, sometimes they hang on sheer rocks or trees, and sometimes they turn out to be completely invisible. If you are too lazy to look for them yourself or turn to clues, google the name of the tower you are interested in and see where the turtles are.

After killing dragons and magma serpents, the player is awarded the “Dragonheart”. This is a very rare item that can be used to buy magic based on the skills of mighty beasts. With it, the player, for example, can spew different types of flames or deliver powerful blows with giant claws. Initially, there are few spells available to choose from, but with almost every monster killed, the set increases.
You can buy abilities in two places.
Temple of the Dragon Communion. You can get to it through the dungeon “Coastal Cave”. You need to kill the boss and go through the location further.

What is the root of death in Elden Ring for?
Another rare artifact is the Root of Death. It is given for defeating certain bosses: the boatman Tibia, the assassins of the Black Knife clan and others. These items must be given to the Beast Shepherd Gurrank in the Animal Sanctuary location. You can get there if you talk to Dee in the Round Table Fortress – he will mark a place with a teleport on the map. Don’t forget to activate the fire!

You can lower the strength of some statuses with jerky. Pills and some spells will help to completely get rid of the negative status. That’s why we strongly recommend buying a crafting kit and actively collecting reference books – then you will learn how to make antidotes to all negative effects.
How to find invisible walls in Elden Ring
Miyazaki loves invisible walls, whatever one may say. Yes, they do not appear in all of his games, but they are in Elden Ring, and entire bosses are hidden behind some. There is even a separate dungeon, entirely consisting of phantom barriers. To find such a wall, look at its surroundings – for example, it is very strange if there are columns on the sides. Why are they there?
It is also highly recommended to read the hints that other players leave. Blindly trusting them is not worth it, since there are enough trolls everywhere, but once again poking a sword at the wall, near which one or even two messages, never hurts.
