You have a hard time finding your prey? This guide is for you!
The Right Weapon
Make sure you use the correct weapon class (tier) for your animal! If you dont, you might “overkill” the animal, wasting alot of meat or if your rifle is not powerful enough, the animal wont take fatal injuries (which results in less blood loss and smaller blood trails). You can find the proper classes in the encyclopedia under animals.
X Marks the Spot – Way of the Hunter How to Track Blood Trail
Before you take a shot – press X to mark the location of the animal. This way you can find the initial blood puddle way easier. You can do this upfront with your binoculars or through your rifles scope. You can also see by the hit animation if you hit the animal properly. (jumps into air or drops instantly with fatal shot)
The Hit Zone
when you found the initial blood puddle, have a closer look at it and use your hunters senses. You can normally find the first blood trace close by. The hunter sense “pulses” in waves, so be patient to spot it. You can normally see the direction because there is a big initial splash and then some blood droplets into the right direction, almost like a cone or arrow shape.
The Trail – Way of the Hunter How to Track Blood Trail
If you see the first trace, align yourself in a proper line and look up. Each trace has a initial blood splash and some droplets. The droplets show the right direction. Tip: mark your current trace with red marker (X) so in case you lose your trail, you can come back there.
The Golden Pattern
The hunter sense should show you the next one close by. This depends on the amount of blood loss! If you didnt hit vital organs, the trace might be very small and the distance between the traces are further away (finally the blood trace can completely disappear on light traces! – the animal basically recovers and wanders off..). So medium to heavy blood loss is always the best option (dont hurry your shots, aim properly!).

If you follow your track, you should eventually find your prey.
Bonus Tip 1 for Better Readability
If you have a hard time following the trails, lower your foliage settings. Blood also drops on foliage, twigs and treestumps and can be hard to notice sometimes. The difference between ultra settings and low settings is huge!

Low:
Bonus Tip 2 for Better Readability
Try to use your headlights (H) instead of your hunters sense to see the bright, red blood even better or in darker conditions.
Bonus Tip 3 – Road Rage – Way of the Hunter How to Track Blood Trail
Dont do that if you cant find your prey – aim better next time, use better weapons or be more patient. Thats what this game is about, knowing your environment and patience. Dont road rage – it will earn you NOTHING! You will not get paid for this.
