The problem is that you will need a massive amount of wood and this guide will show you an efficient strategy on how to farm wood in Valheim.

Valheim Farming Wood – Step 1 Troll
Find a Black Woods biome, get a workbench and portal ready to build. Look for a Troll with tree club.
Build workbench and portal to you home base.
Step 2 – ???
Kite the Troll around and make it hit the trees while dodging his hits.
Easier with a friend so you can switch and deposit the wood while other teammate is kiting the Troll.
Step 3 – Profit
Collect the wood (grab the Megingjord for more weight) and teleport back to your base when full. You should be full in 2 min or so, depending how many trees around.

The following update will create the tanning rack. It will require the past materials, for example, wood and stone just as farmable assets through chasing which are cowhide scraps (from pigs) and deer stow away (from deer). Chasing these creatures for assets is very irregular as the game has arbitrarily produced universes.
